Binkies Bites: Valentine Heart Brownies with Foodstirs

I first heard about Foodstirs when I attended The Good Foundation’s, Halloween Bash. The company is a passion project of Sarah Michelle Gellar. They offer organic baking kits and monthly subscription boxes to bake with, or for your kiddos. I love baking with my kids. It’s one of my favorite ways to bond while providing so many life lessons and practicing motor skills and patience. It also makes a big mess, and that can be so much fun! Wanna know a secret? Kids love to clean too! Give them a bucket with some sud filled warm water and let them wash the bowls and mixers while the goodies bake.

Foodstirs gifted me a Valentine Brownie Kit in exchange for my honest review. All opinions and ideas expressed in this blog post are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Binkies & Baubles blog.

I was so excited when I found out Foodstirs was going to send us their Valentine kit to try. I’m a huge fan of what I call, just add water baking kits. They still give the kids a way to add some wet ingredients but the mix takes care of all the dry. Kids also have a short attention span, so the kits give them the interaction and independence they crave in a timeframe that they don’t end up bored and frustrated. Not to mention us moms are more likely to keep our cool too!

The thing I love about baking with kids is it teaches them so many values without even trying. I try to use the opportunity to teach patience. They have to wait for their goodies to cook, but I also try to make our treats in the morning and they don’t get to eat them till after dinner. They get to lick the bowl or spoon, but the real reward comes later. Cooking and baking give children a vested interest in what they are eating. They are more likely to want to eat and taste more foods if they have a roll in preparing it. Their pride in the final dish makes them a little more open-minded. Only a little, so don’t get too excited. They also get to witness the journey the food went on. From shelf at the grocery store, clean and prep, to mixed, cooked or baked. They watch the food change color shape and texture. Some food even tastes different when cooked vs raw. These are things we talk about when we cook and bake together.

The kitchen is the heart of my home. It was that way in the home I was raised in, and I am forever grateful. Spending this quality time with my kids in a way I know they will enjoy, learn, and love is so wonderful! When I have a kit that is simple and fun I can spend more time bonding than focusing on the recipe… until there is an eggshell in the batter. These brownies only took 15 minutes to cook. They are so fudgin’ cute and delicious! Sure to please any chocolate loving Valentine. The Valentine’s Brownie Kit will only be available to order for a limited time. If you miss this box, don’t fret, the next one will be just as fun and delicious! Click HERE to see a few of their best selling kits. You can purchase kits individually or join the Baker’s Club Monthly Subscription. Happy Baking!
