Capitol Reef. The 3rd stop on our National Parks tour in Utah. It was an experience just to get there driving through snow storms in the tiniest little towns but it was another memory making adventure.

Bryce Canyon. Second stop on our Utah National Parks tour. We watched the weather closely the whole week up to this trip and were still met with a surprise snow storm. Oh well… the Hoodoos were pretty beautiful covered in winter white. Instead of hiking we drove the scenic route and it was pretty spectacular. We made some best efforts to see the sunset/Full moon rise, and sunrise the next morning but the clouds were a little too thick. Fun Fact: Bryce Canyon is not actually a “canyon”.

Zion National Park 2024. Sharing the beauty of hundreds of millions of years in the making with my children is, by far, my favorite part of our homeschool learning. 💚 Mother Nature, the original artist. The co-creator of the most intricate and sophisticated systems of life and evolution. The awe inspiring. All of her beauty in abundance in Zion! We cannot wait to go back. Everywhere you turn is truly breathtaking. Seeing the history told in the layers of canyon wall is incredible.

We went to 4 National Parks in 5 days (2 days in Zion) for our Spring Trip. Fourth graders get a free family pass to all National Parks and we’re trying to see how many we can squeeze in!
.
We did the Jr. Ranger Astronomy Night Walk and it was so fun and informative ⭐️ Highly recommend! The Jr. Ranger badges are super fun and easy to earn while learning a lot.

We rode the scenic route out to #templeofsanawava Day 1, and did the #kayentatrail to the Lower Emerald Pools Day 2.

This was an organic moment. One morning I entered the kitchen and Cora was teaching Bexley how to make scrambled eggs. These are the moments of validation for me as a mother. The magical get to witness in our day to day 🤍✨

5 things we do in our family to encourage sibling connection
• We foster an environment where “everyone’s needs are met” to remind them that life is not fair and it shouldn’t be. Their wants and needs are different and we do our best to meet them individually.
• Discuss the pros and cons of everyone’s roles in the family dynamic. Every role has its challenges and responsibilities. This allows them to see that they are all treated the same way during the same age but experiencing them at different times and that comes with different emotional experiences.
• Understand each other’s love languages and how to give and receive love from each other.
• I try to not interrupt them when they are playing or in a time of connection. Most everything else can wait… even sleep when they’re chatting past bedtime.
• We encourage them to work out their squabbles on their own and help them understand what and why they are both feeling when they need a little guidance.
• We are excited to start giving them sibling dates! I’ll be taking them somewhere like Starbucks and watching them from afar as they order and spend 15-20 minutes being big girls on their own.

It’s healthy for siblings to fight and work through conflict. The goal isn’t for them to never argue, but learn how to argue, discuss and work together to compromise. Or to see the world through someone else’s perspective. And to learn you can still have a disagreement with someone you love and not lose their love or be punished for a different point of view or setting boundaries.

Let’s not make our body issues, eating habits, and fitness goals the business of 7, 10, and 13, year old girls in the most body aware part of their adolesce as they form their views of their own body and become aware that others have opinions on their appearance. Let’s guard them from inheriting our toxic view of physical beauty and diet culture 🫶🏻 If it’s hard to just say no thank you, you can give them a compliment, offer a high 5 and/or encouragement 🙌🏻 And if you really feel bad turning them down you can donate a box or donate $5 to the troop (or lie if you must and say you already bought some…)

Girl Scouts are learning how to speak in public, marketing, money management, team work, confidence and responsibility when they sell cookies. The money they raise goes towards their troop activities and some funds will be donated to community organizations. Girl Scouts are committed to making the world a better place, so you’re not just buying cookies, you’re making the world a better place too 🤍✨ if you want to change your body that’s ok, but remember you are beautiful in all your stages 🦋

This is something I think about often as I do my i

This is something I think about often as I do my inner healing and soul work, especially as we turn 10. My oldest daughter is my biggest teacher and we talk often about how we’re in this together and we’ll always figure it out. But I can’t help but ponder about all the ways I’ve responded before I knew better. Children have their beliefs and their inner monologue formed by age 7. I didn’t start my healing until she was 6… I know the challenges we will face because of this and I know this is our path to walk together. Oh, how I wish I knew back then what I know now… I do remain confident in the knowledge that it’s never too late to repair! I will spend all of our days doing all I can to hold space for her as she works through the trauma I caused. I also know that every parent will cause “trauma”, none of us our perfect, and it’s all part of our soul contract here in this human experience. I caught this hug while recording us out on a nature walk. Such a beautiful and vulnerable moment of connection. I’ve started finding my own validation in motherhood and this special moment was today’s validation that I’m doing a good job. We will be okay. 🤍✨

I’ve been a mom for a decade! Days are sometimes long, but the years really are short. 10 whole years.
.
Becoming a mom was the biggest adventure I’ve ever embarked upon. She has been my teacher through good and bad. I remember when she was growing inside me how I’d wonder what she’d be like… and she’s pretty incredible. She wears her giant heart on her sleeve, loves animals and nature. She’s full of magic, imagination, and wonder. I love seeing the world through her eyes.
.
Lately she’s really interested in learning to draw, especially anime characters. She adopted her best friend’s rats when they had to move out of state and is so honored to take care of them. She reads to them every night and plays calming music for them when she’s not in her room. We’re looking forward to summer when she’ll run track and do swim team again. She has a goal of being able to bake on her own in the next few months and wants to learn embroidery, knitting, and woodworking this winter.
.
I thank my lucky stars each night that I get to be her mom. That I get to spend my days alongside her. That learning to be a good mother to her is remothering myself. All the parts of me in her that were seen negatively in me, and I can see the beauty of them in her 🤍✨

There’s just “that something special” about

There’s just “that something special” about her. If you know Bexley, you know why everyone should have someone like her in their life… she’s simply THE best. She turned 8 recently and I just cannot wait to see what this year brings for her. Eight is typically a very difficult age for kids to transition through but her and I have been through lots of difficult moments together and they were practice for this development leap she’ll be experiencing.
.
Bexley is such an amazing friend, sister, and daughter. She is a complex little human that teaches all sorts of much. She is creative expression defined. From what she wears, to her love of arts and crafts, to the way she plates her food, everything she touches is intentionally just so. She has big emotions, and that means big love and big joy. Her ability to recognize her anxiety and conquer her fears is inspiring.
.
She is a caregiver. Watching her with Bruce is pure magic. She mothers him in a way I can’t and it’s something so special. She is counting down to the day she can be a babysitter…
.
Along with her many artistic talents she loves music, teaching herself piano and learning the violin. Her soccer skills improved 10x this year and she joined a cheer/dance squad aaaaand a Girl Scout Brownie troop. She’s a very busy girl!
.
Bexley’s love language is quality time and even though we homeschool and are together all day it’s not always easy for me to be intentional about our time. She’s really teaching me to prioritize and connect in new and expansive ways. I enjoy every day I get to spend with her. I’m so incredibly grateful I get to be her mom. My life is so wonderful because she’s in it. 🤍✨

Trying to fit a 7 day Hawaii vacation into 90 seconds. Our week on Oahu was amazing. The Aulani Disney Resort lived up to the magic. We are so blessed to have had the opportunity to celebrate our dear friend’s wedding in such a beautiful place and turn a destination wedding into a family adventure. My children may forget some of the memories but I never will 🍍🤍✨
