Mom About Town: The Neon Museum Las Vegas

I’m such a lucky gal, my hubby planned a little Mother’s Day getaway for us to Las Vegas. It’s a quick 4-hour drive from LA, so my mom came to stay with the girls and we headed out on a Sin City adventure. The first thing we did was check into the Aria Resort and Casino and headed straight to the pool. Both hubby and I ordered a drink and some food and fell fast asleep. We woke to our drinks slightly melted and our food a little cool, but it was such an amazing nap!

We aren’t the biggest of Vegas-goers, but we go a few times a year. Both of us aren’t big drinkers or partiers, so it’s mostly an adventure in people watching for us. Hubby likes the Black Jack tables, and I like to be poolside sipping my Miami Vice. It’s a swirl of Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri if you’ve never had the pleasure. We did get married in Las Vegas, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. We had a beautiful rooftop wedding overlooking the strip. We got married on our 10 year anniversary and wanted it to be somewhere all our friends and family could travel to easily. It was mostly perfect, but that’s a story for another time.

While planning the wedding I wanted to have our engagement pictures taken at the Neon Graveyard. It’s a plot of land that is filled with old neon signs from casinos on the strip. Going back and forth from LA to Vegas didn’t allow us the extra time then. Seeing as we had all the time in the world this visit, sans-kids, I wanted to check it out. I’m so glad we did! It was pretty cool. They are so much bigger than you think they are. We made the mistake of thinking it was just an open yard. The Neon Museum is actually a tour attraction and you have to stay with your tour the entire time. We went one afternoon to find the tours sold out and had to return the next morning. SO! If you want to visit, buy your tickets ahead of time. It’s a quick tour, about an hour. I recommend morning as it is an open lot and Vegas warms up quickly.
